I charge $35/hour for basic copyediting, and I usually process 3–4 pages an hour (where a page is about 400–500 words, at 10 to 12 point font).
I charge $40/hour for more in-depth editing where I have to do research to verify facts, copyrights, or trademarks. That amount of work also tends to slow me to 2–3 pages per hour.
For turnaround in less than 24 hours, I charge $40/hour.
For larger jobs (30 or more pages), I will require a down payment of 50% of the estimated amount. The balance will be due upon receipt of the completed edit.
IMPORTANT: Specify a deadline that includes both date and time for when you need the edited copy returned.
